As hot summer days turn into cold rainy chilly ones, we find ourselves inside our homes seeking warmth as we close the windows and doors in order to become warm and cosy! We then tend to forget about our gardens, decks, alfresco and patio areas and while we do neglect these once lively entertainment areas, inside our homes become a little mouldy and musty smelling.
Styling your home for sale during these cold, chilly months is different from styling it in the summer months. So what do you need to do in order to make your home beautifully presented for sale?
Make sure your gardens are well manicured and your entertainment areas are clean and inviting. If you have a pool, make sure it is clean and inviting too as pools are a great selling feature of your home so make sure it looks great. Put away and store your summer clothes, this allows for more room in your closets for your winter clothes. Use warming colours like brown, orange, red, silver and black. Don’t use blues as these are cool summer colours. Use big, thick throw rugs on the end of your bed and in your living room. This creates warmth and a cosy feeling. And make sure you have your house professionally cleaned and clean all your windows and doors both inside and out.
On the day of your open home, freshen up your home by opening the windows prior to the open to allow the fresh air in and the mouldy, stale air out. If you have central heating or a gas fire place, have this on during the open to create warmth. Turn on ALL your lights, every single light, both inside and out and have a nice bunch of fresh seasonal flowers.
